If the holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday
becomes a holiday.
Christmas (December 25) is not a national holiday in
Japan.
The holiday period from the end of the year into the
start of the new year is arranged as follows:
Government offices: Closed from Dec. 29 to Jan.
3.
Banks: Banking services are unavailable from Dec.
31 to Jan. 3.
Stores: Many stores are closed on Jan. 1.
Business offices: Many offices are closed from Dec.
29 to Jan. 3.
Schools: Winter vacation usually lasts from near the
end of December to early January
